FAQ for South African based Investors

How do I do this?

OzInvest is an experienced Australian Company with qualified consultants available to help you and answer any of your questions. To know more simply send us an email here: invest@ozinvest.com.au and we will have one of our consultants contact you within 24 hours.

How much money am I allowed to take out of South Africa?

This can vary, but as a South African Citizen you are allowed to take R4 million per person.

What do I need to do to get clearance to take money out of the Country?

You have to register the clearance with the South African Reserve Bank, but firstly you must make sure your tax affairs are in place. It takes about 7-10 working days to obtain a tax clearance from SARS.

Where do I obtain finance if required?

The current interest rate is only 5.45% in Australia so it makes sense to obtain finance through one of the Australian banks. OzInvest are experienced in sourcing the best available options for South Africans, so we can do this for you.

Are there any tax implications as I am a South African based tax resident?

We always suggest you seek independent advice, but there is a double taxation agreement in place between Australia and South Africa which means that as individual, you will only be taxed once.

Who will be my attorneys in Australia?

In Australia there is an attorney (solicitor) for the buyer and the seller. Over the years OzInvest have built a recommended panel of solicitors which we are happy to recommend depending on where you invest.

Who is going to look after my investment for me?

OzInvest have a 22 year history of managing all facets of the investment for our entire local and overseas based investors. From the initial property purchase right though to managing the tenants.

Can I visit my property?

Of course you can. With staff in most States (the equivalent of Provinces in SA), OzInvest take many existing and potential clients to inspect their property. All you have to do is let us know in advance when you will be coming in order for us to make viewing arrangements on your behalf with the tenants (at least 1 weeks notice is required).
